Investigative Question or Issue: How does wildlife in the Adirondacks adapt to changes that occur throughout the year?

Challenge:  
Context for this challenge: Prior to engaging in this challenge, students should explore selected readings and illustrated resources which describe how various animials of the Adirondacks adapt to seasonal changes in their habitat. Some of the resources may be passages of text from a yearly guide that is read to the students by the teacher.

The Challenge:
In teams of two formed with the help of your teacher, choose an animal native to the Adirondacks that is of interest to both of you.

Create a series of 12 calendar illustrations that could be used to show how your selected animal adapts to changes in its habitat during each month of the year. Be sure that your work accurately depicts both the habitat of the animal as well as any special characteristics of the animal you've chosen.

As you create your illustrations, please consider the following:
  • Some of your illustrations must be completed within 30 minutes after your teacher reads you a selected passage about your animal.
  • You will have ____ periods to complete work on your illustrations.
  • Your illustrations and coloring should be neat.
  • Your illustrations should clearly show the adaptations of your animal during the month you are depicting
