Investigative Question or Issue: How did the
formation of the Great Sacandaga Lake impact area communities in
regards to
their economy, people, physical environment, tourism, hunting, fishing,
and
nature?
Challenge:
A. As a class we will
take a field trip to the Schoolhouse Museum, the Bradt Museum, and tour
the Sacandaga Park area.
B. In groups of 2, research a given Sacandaga Lake Community
(FishHouse, Edinburg, Cranberry Creek, Northville/Northampton,
Mayfield, Providence, Batchelorville, and Broadabin) focusing on the
specific elements in the question (economy, people, physical
environment, tourism, hunting, fishing, and nature (flora and fauna)
and write a 2 page essay answering the invetigative question in detail.
Your final draft must be typed and double-spaced.
C. Create a detailed map, diorama or model of your community prior to
1930. Your selection must be historically accurate and include 3
aspects of the impact of flooding the valley. You must provide a
caption with your selection which describes in detail what your visual
display depicts.
D. You will present your visual project and give a 3-4 minute synopsis
of your area community and the impactss of the lake.

Quality Standards:
- In pairs, students
research one Sacandaga Lake area community and the impact that the
flooding of the valley had on that community.
- Write a 2 page
double-spaced essay explaining the impact that the flooding of the
valley had on the economy, people, physical environment, tourism,
hunting, fishing, and nature of the lake community.
- Create one of the
following: detailed map, diorama, or model of assignment community
prior to 1930 and the flooding of the valley which focuses on ant 3
aspects of economy, people, physical environment, tourism, hunting,
fishing, and nature of the lake community.
- Give an oral
presentation of the visual project and a 3-4 minute summary of the
impact of the flooding on the community.
