Investigative Question or Issue: How are the Hudson and
Raquette
Rivers alike and different?
Challenge:
Context for this Challenge: Students
will need access to maps, and illustrated books or magazines that show
geographic information and scenes along the route of the Hudson and
Raquette River.
The Challenge: With you partner, use the resources provided to create
an illustrated travel log in which you describe the similarities and
differences of traveling down the Hudson and Raquette rivers.
As you construct your travel log, please be sure to
do the following:
- Create
a cover page for your
travel log that
includes the title of your travel log, the names of the authors, and
and illustration that somehow shows what a traveler might see as they
go down these two rivers
- Include a map in your travel log that traces the course
the Hudson and
Raquette Rivers. On this map, be sure to - label the mouth and source
of each river, indicate the direction each river flows, indicate any
special features of each river like waterfalls, oxbows, and meanders,
show where the Blue Line of the Adirondack Park is so readers will know
where the river enters/exits the park.
- Describe the location of at least three town/cities within the Blue
Line that are found along the course of each river
- Describe the location of at least two towns/cities outside the Blue
Line that are found along the course of each river.
-
Describe how each river has been used by the people along its course to
make a living and/or for other purposes.
Feel free
to include pictures or drawings in your travel log to help the reader
understand the major similarities and differences between these two
rivers that you want to point out.
