Investigative Question or Issue: Practice your speech
sounds using
words related to where we live.
Challenge:
Create a take home
articulation practice book using vocabulary related to the Adirondacks.
1. Look through the picture cards.
2. Say the name of each picture outloud. Determine if your
target sound is in that word, i.e. look for /l/ sound. If
your target sound is in the word, save that card. If not,
continue on with the remaining cards. The target sound can be in
the beginning, middle, or end of the word. i.e. /l/ is in the
word loon.
3. Once you have sorted out the cards with your speech sound,
divide them into three groups.
Sound at the beginning of the word, i.e. loon
Sound in the middle of the word, i.e.
duckling
Sound at the end of the word,i.e. owl.
4. Choose five cards from each group so that you have 15 cards
total (5 with the sound at the beginning of the word, 5 in the middle,
and 5 at the end).
5. Get 15 index cards and some glue. Glue one picture card
on an index card.
6. On the opposite side, write the name of the card, i.e.
loon
7. Next create and write a phrase using that word, i.e. a loon
cry.
8. Finally, using the phrase, create a complete sentence,
i.e. I heard a loon cry.
9. Take the book home to use for practice with your target speech
sound.
10. For an extra challenge, create a story using the target words
chosen. You may illustrate it.
