Investigative Question or Issue: What's it like to grow up in the Adirondack Mountains?

Challenge:
Create a book based on a series of autobiographical episodes that tell about growing up in the Adirondack Mountains.

Quality Standards:

Students will work with their Art and English teachers, and artist Sheri Amsel, in order to learn the vocabulary and skills necessary to write, edit, design, and illustrate a book. They will read "When I Was Young in the Mountains" by Cynthia Rylant, illustrated by Diane Goode and examine several illustrated books to identify a variety of layout possibilities for text and pictures.
The Product Quality Checklist reflects the Arts skills necessary to successfully complete the project.
